TL;DR: for any timing related cycle 0-6 project, only *.ar files that already exist will be saved. If you want to keep raw data for any project, contact Gemma immediately - see table at the end.
====
Hi all,
This email follows a dicussion in the PWG on May 6th.
As you know, the early LOFAR1 data from Cycle 0-6 is up for retirement/deletion from the LTA.
For the PWG, there have been two efforts to request data products for safekeeping;
1) Any pulsar timing related projects
led by Caterina Tiburzi, now taken over by Gemma Janssen and Joris Verbiest
2) Any pulsar or transient searching related projects
led by Jason Hessels
We provided lists of the projects to ASTRON SDCO and since mid-April, we are provided with download links on a project-by-project basis. ASTRON is staging each project separately with a few-week window for downloading, after which the project gets ‘unstaged’ and another project is staged.
Now that we are actively downloading the data, it turns out that the Data Volume per project is varying massively, depending on which data products are in the LTA.
1) For the “pure” pulsar timing projects, the data volumes are very small; we intend to ONLY keep the *.ar archive files, one per observation. This still has some frequency and time resolution (400 subbands and typically 5-s subintegrations, depending on the pulsar).
1) For other “potentially timing-related" projects, there is only raw data available, which is large to download and will need to be processed first to be valuable for timing purposes first.
==> We decided that for 1), this is not worth the effort.
Please see the table below or the notes in the PWG minutes google doc

If you are interested in keeping any data of the projects listed in the table that are orange or red, this is still possible; however, you will be responsible yourself for finding storage space and downloading the data when it is staged by ASTRON SDCO.
Contact us ASAP if this is the case. If we don’t hear from you, we will NOT download these data and they will disappear from the LTA sometime in the coming months.
2) for information on pulsar or transient searching related projects, contact Jason Hessels.
Kind regards, on behalf of Caterina and Jors,
Gemma
LOFAR projects requested for downloads from LTA LC0-LC6
Green: will be downloaded by Verbiest/Tiburzi/Janssen. Only archives will be saved.
Red: will NOT be downloaded by Verbiest/Tiburzi/Janssen. Contact Gemma if you want to download a project yourself.
Orange: will be downloaded by Verbiest/Tiburzi/Janssen. If there already are archives, those will be saved. If there is only raw data, nothing will be saved. If you are interested in (potential) raw data files, contact Gemma.
IF THERE IS A TRANSIENT/FRB/SEARCH PROJECT, or another pulsar project that is not in this list that you are interested in, contact Jason Hessels.
